So welcome to the first of a series of art doujinshi reviews from me. I've allowed for people to make requests on my previous blog, found here: BLOG #12478
I'm happy to take on more, so please just let me know what you'd like me to review from my collection and I'll endeavor to do them for you. I'll be aiming to review them in such a way that I would like to hear about doujinshi, but if you'd like me to change anything at all, let me know and I'll try to alter my reviewing method.
Additionally, to respect the artists, I will not be doing scans of the pages, but rather just photos - if you find you like the doujinshi, please try to buy it rather than just have scans of the pages It's definitely worth it in the end to support these guys.
Now onto the first review!
My first doujinshi review is a book published by Lisa, but is a compilation work by 25 artists. I purchased my copy on eBay for approximately 2000円, however I know it has been available on Keibunsha Bambio in the past. The only reason I chose eBay over Keibunsha was because I'd never made a proxy order before when I got this book and well, it's intimidating at first!
The book is 34 pages and is deformed A4 - which actually means it's not really A4 at all. The actual size of the book is 210mm × 210mm. This book was released 13 February 2011 at COMITIA95.
The cover of the book is a nice black cardstock and is very slightly debossed with the title - "猫の本 The Book of Cats" in gold foil. It's really nice and crisp and the cover is textured so it feels quite nice to the touch.
A lovely extra touch to the cover is the ribbon and bell. I absolutely love this bit and while it makes it a little more complicated to store, it's just too nice to ignore. For anyone wondering, yes, the bell does jingle.
On the first page, you have a list of all the artists involved in this compilation doujinshi. The paper is quite shiny and a reasonable thickness but definitely requires you to be careful with your body oils if you touch them with your hands. Like I said before, there are 25 different artists, however I'll only be showing a select number of pages.
It's quite clear that this book is indeed, about cats. There's a mix of boy and catgirls ay varied levels of anthropomorphism (Note: most are just people with cat ears and tails) and people with cats. Cats. Cats. Cats.
I love cats, so I really enjoy this fact.
The art in this book is incredibly varied and I absolutely love that about this doujinshi. There's a wonderful range of digital work, some mixed media and there is enough different styles that it would be wonderful for someone looking for inspiration. It's very clear from each page that it's a compilation work, so there doesn't look like there's a flowing theme in the order which the illustrations were added. So this can be a little jarring when looking through the doujinshi.
The printing of the work is really crisp and clear - something you should expect to see with the printers we have available now. Other than that, there's not much to say. The colours are nice and bright and it's all very lovely to look at.
Overall, this doujinshi, while printed all the way back in early 2011, is worth owning if you're a fan of cats or enjoy original works with a bit of a range in pieces. I wouldn't pay any more than 2500円 for this book, for those interested in what I feel the book is worth. While the book is a decent length for a doujinshi, it is quite small. However, it's a little more novel when you take into account the bell that has been included.
Thanks to anyone who read through my first proper review and please, let me know what you think! Also again, if you'd like me to review something else, pop on over to my profile and see if there's anything that tickles your fancy and would like to know more about.

Artwork looks good quality and varied too. Only issue is it's probably going to be quite hard to find...
Well, I guess I can say I want this now. Nice review.Yeah, I actually had no idea how hard it was to find now, I found myself thinking "Oh, I could totally link people where they can get it themselves" but then nope.
