Project Tag Happy

This will be the central location for all documentation and discussion related to Project Tag Happy.

This post is a work in progress: a full description of the project is TBD.

For a background on the project, see the original idea and subsequent conversation posted in the Club Ideas thread: threads.v4.php?...

Awesome! I'll spread the word around to some MFC associates!

At the moment, I think for planning, and to keep the size of the project pretty digestable; it should focus on figure entry tagging only. Just for now.

Excluding all goods and media, for the moment; even just thinking about it is way too overwhelming with the shudders 1 million items on this DB.

I think keeping it to just figures at first is a good call. As you put it, the amount of non-figures would be overwhelming. The main figure categories imo are probably:
I can also try to spread the word around.

Im going to try to just look through the Garage Kits and trading catergories for figures that arent properly tagged. This is a great project and will hopefully help people to find figures more quickly !

I think that a good starting point would be for us to first come to a concensus on tagging advice/guidelines. My thought is that we would make suggestions here, and then compile them into a singular list to be used as reference. One suggestion that I had:

Be specific. When possible, choose a tag that has adjectives or more descriptors in it. For example:

blue hair ribbon instead of ribbon,
leather jacket instead of jacket,
black thighhigh boots instead of boots, etc

When you add these specific tags, the more generic tags will also be added automatically. If you'd like to check, you can look at the "implications" column on a tag to see which tags will be auto added when you add said tag.

if youre looking for specific companies, i highly suggest either ENTRY #7643 or (if you're 18+) ENTRY #7846. Lots of obscure trading figures from obscure series with little tags.

I'm thinking it's almost time to start putting this together. I think we have a good amount of interest now, and in my mind the next steps are:
  • Create the tagging table and put it somewhere.
I'm not entirely sure where this should go; it'd be nice if MFC supported bbcode tables..
  • Come up with a more formalized guide on how to tag. I think having a sort of "Tag FAQ" that people can refer to would help ensure that there is a degree of uniformity to any tagging that's done.

I will join this project too. I am thinking that a query would be useful (sadly no idea how to make one). With that we can filter on the vague discriptions. I think I start with the figures I own.
I am thinking about a way to register some information along the way.

By make a query to filter on vague descriptions, do you mean a way to find items with limited tags? Just want to make sure I understand. If so, I think that's a good idea. I wonder if there is a way to determine whether or not an item has any user applied tags?

For example, this book: ITEM #204757 has no user suggested tags, they are all auto tagged. If we could somehow find which items have only auto generated tags, that might be a good starting point? Sorry if I misunderstood what you meant though.

"tagme" tag exists however it is only used for figures with no user added tags.

though considering there is 12,000+ figures in this tag... browse.v4.php?t...

HOWEVER it does NOT account for the probably thousand of figures with one singular tag added, my current example being ITEM #1898193

although, shockingly, there are 3 goods in this tag, but they were user-applied

The initiative is really cool. I added tags to more than few items when I was looking for figures to identify in the thread thread/17399 but never thought about encouraging others to do the same.

I made an userscript (it's a bit smaller than a browser extension, it works only on the pages and doesn't affect browser's behavior) to add small info about number of tags for figure entries in search results, company lists etc. I hope it would help with the Tag Happy project. You can download it from Greasyfork. The guide how to install userscripts is also kept on the same site. View spoilerHide spoilerOnce you install the script, you'll see it's slow to add numbers. It's because MFC has no public API I know about, and I download entry pages in the background to get only one number shown in a tags box. The other reason is MFC allows only 1 request per second. I was focused to lessen the impact like keeping a list of tags count in the browser's memory so they won't be downloaded again after a page's refresh.

The script is unfinished, and I'm happy to hear about more improvements! bkdk12 days ago#125245992lowroller12 days ago#125245963My script may do the thing you both want. The script adds a number of all tags on search results for entries, but I can tweak it to show only number of tags applied by users or both auto-tags and user-tags.

What if we organized users to pick smaller/more obscure series they're familiar with and manually go through items and see what needs tags added? Start with smaller series that have <20 items per category to avoid overwhelming. Could be a good way to knock out things with very few tags.

This seems extremely useful! I have a linux laptop that I'd rather run this on, or maybe just use a VM lol. So I haven't tried it yet, but thank you for suggesting this! I will try to look into it soon and report back.

Maybe the first step is compiling a list of them?

I wonder if a site admin would help us with this... this project is improving the site after all.
